Dr. Gordon Scofield Recognized by Marquis Who’s Who for Excellence in Mechanical Engineering
Dr. Scofield has met with success as a mechanical engineer and educator over the last five decades
RAPID CITY, SD, July 11, 2016, Dr. Gordon L. Scofield has been included in Marquis Who’s Who. As in all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Scofield is a National Science Foundation scientific faculty fellow who has met with tremendous success as a mechanical engineer and educator over the last five decades. He served as an instructor of mechanical engineering at South Dakota State College, professor and head of the mechanical engineering department at Michigan Technology University and distinguished professor of mechanical engineering at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. Additionally, Dr. Scofield worked as the VP and dean of engineering for South Dakota School of Mines and Technology — later becoming the president of the university’s technology foundation. In recognition of professional excellence, he was selected for inclusion in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in the Midwest, and Who’s Who in Finance and Business.
Prior to establishing a career as an educator, Dr. Scofield served the U.S. Naval Reserve. He also acted as a consultant to the U.S. Naval Ordnance Test Station at China Lake and served on the board of directors of the accreditation board of engineering and technology. He went on to attend Purdue University, where he achieved a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering in 1946. Thereafter, Dr. Scofield obtained a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Missouri and a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the University of Oklahoma. To remain at the top of his field, he is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Society of Automotive Engineers, for which he served as president and earned an Excellence in Engineering Education award. Additionally, he is a member of the American Society of Engineering Education.
As he looks to the future, Dr. Scofield intends to continue contributing to the field of mechanical engineering.
